The History of Quilt Making

The Turkish word for quilt is first encountered mention as “Yourgan” in an Uighur inscription, which in later periods became the name for an important handcraft and tradition. The Kilis quilts are renowned for their unique designs, and stem from the 1950’s when craftsmen were inspired by the quilts that local women sewed at home, and began to develop them professionally. Due to the dedication of these craftsmen, the art of quiltmaking spread rapidly throughout the region.
